Article 16

Article 16 allows an aircraft with a MTOM above 250g and not more than 7.5Kg more to be flown more freely.

Article 16 Flights

Pilots can fly as close as 30m of uninvolved people and as close as 15m for take-off and landing.

Aircraft between 250g and 7.5kg

  • Pilots cannot fly within a horizontal distance of 30m of assemblies of people.
  • The 1:1 rule applies here thus forming a 30m 'bubble' around uninvolved people.
  • Pilots can fly as close as 15m of uninvolved people for the purposes of take-off and landing only.
  • Flying in a built-up area is not permitted.
  • Flying in a built-up area used for recreational purposes (e.g. a park) is permitted with a risk assessment.
  • ANO Article 241 always applies.

Aircraft between 7.5kg and 25kg

  • Pilots cannot fly within a horizontal distance of 50m of assemblies of people.
  • The 1:1 rule applies here thus forming a 50m 'bubble' around uninvolved people.
  • Pilots can fly as close as 30m of uninvolved people for the purposes of take-off and landing only.
  • Flying in a built-up area is not permitted.
  • Flying in a built-up area used for recreational purposes (e.g. a park) is permitted with a risk assessment.
  • ANO Article 241 always applies.
